Fallen by Lauren Kate

…the new Twilight?

(Fallen came out in the UK on the 8th Dec 2009)

A normal teenage girl falls in love with an abnormal and completely-out-of-her-league boy, who appears (and turns out to be) supernatural, and who tries as hard as he can to avoid contact with her before finally succumbing to his overpowering love for her.

Remind you of anything?!

Fallen is a good book for many reasons; it has memorable characters, a twisted love story, a few beautiful outcasts and one misunderstood teenage girl we can all identify with. It also has a gripping plot, with many new and original ideas. It has a fantastic mix of temptation, forbidden love and the paranormal.

So why do I feel like I should hate it?

Probably because although the main story of the plot is well thought out and unique, most of the sub-plots are so similar to those of Twilight. There’s even another, much less complicated, much more open and (appears to be) much more intrested in Luce, the main character. (Jacob, anyone?)

This book has left me with mixed emotions. On one hand, it really is a great book, and I can’t wait for the next one to come out. On the other hand, I feel like I’m betraying Stephanie Meyer by loving such a similar book! A definate must-read, this book is sure to be a marmite (love it or hate it).
