Willow Smith

Willow Smith is just cool. She’s ten, and already she’s cooler than me. And you, probably. When we were ten we were making mud pies and our best friend was Baby Born. Willow’s so cool that (at the age of ten) she’s sitting next to Naomi Campbell and Kylie at major fashion events. She’s been compared to Rihanna (her voice is as good, seriously) but we think she’s waaaay cooler. She’s just so down with the kids.

Willow said about her (immensely cool) new track Whip My Hair, ‘It means just be an individual. You can’t be afraid to be yourself.’

We didn’t know who we ‘were’ until we were, like, way past ten… And here Willow is with her own – totally edgy – style and personality. Man, maybe if I just whip my hair back and forth enough times I might just be as cool as Willow Smith.

Egyptian Hip Hop

MOtrend apologises for its absence, there are no excuses.

But we are back on the road again, starting with good old music post. Described  as ‘the fourth leg of north-west England’s 2010 takeover’, Egyptian Hip Hop are rapidly getting bigger, you’ve probably heard, Moon Crooner or Rad Pitt. They sound like really famous old songs, when they’ve only just come out..and they’ve been created by 17 year olds. It just kinda shows how good the songs are, if they already sound so classic. Having only began their musical quest last year, it’s pretty amazing how successful they are already and how much hype there is around them. Enough ramble..

California Gurls

Katy Perry’s recent hit has a contagious, sugary feel – the video is set in Candyland, after all. It’s all about contrasting colours and cutsie prints, everything about it is sweet and a little bit sickly.

Here’s the best on the high street (minus the wig…)

Radio 1’s Big Weekend

The first major British festival of the year – Radio 1 ‘s Big Weekend hit Bangor, North Wales last weekend. Acts included MGMT, Rhianna, Florence and the Machine and Dizzee Rascal… but I’m most interested in their outfits:

Pixie Lott performing at Radio 1's Big Weekend 2010

Over the knee boots and a cropped leather jacket with puffed sleeves? Really, Pixie?  I miss the hair accessories, too, but I quite fancy a pair of those shorts…

Rihanna performing live at Radio 1's Big Weekend 2010

A leathery playsuit with a hood and fishnets – this really should not be working. But somehow it is.

Marina & The Diamonds performing at Radio 1's Big Weekend 2010

I love Marina and the Diamonds, but something has gone very bady wrong here. Why does she look like a five year old on halloween?

Florence & The Machine performing live at Radio 1's Big Weekend 2010

Florence stole the show with that cream cape – no doubt about it – but the dress could do more for her figure. Her hair, as usual, is amazing.

Cheryl Cole performing at Radio 1's Big Weekend 2010

Love the glasses, but, for someone with such a great figure, I’m not quite sure why Ms. Cole is wearing an army jacket. However, utility very ‘this season’.

Go to Radio 1’s Big Weekend to see more photos, videos and reviews.

The Middle East (band)

The Middle East are a kinda indie, kinda pop/ambience/folky/post rock musical collective which reminds me of the Temper Trap and Mumford and Sons. I love their sweet melodies and thick vocal harmonies.

Check’em out at http://www.myspace.com/visitthemiddleeast

Here’s one of my favourite tracks, Blood.

Paloma Faith

Soul singer Paloma Faith has a gorgeous voice that reminds me of Amy Winehouse as well a quirky dress sense.  Her song Upside Down is my favourite, you might have heard it on Jools Holland a few months back.

Here are some luurvely pictures of her:

Daisy Dares You

16 year old Daisy Dares You is an up-and-coming artist with a massive personality… I love her single ‘Number One Enemy’ (featuring Chipmunk…omgg!) which is bound to smash the charts:

I’ma liking the Alice in Wonderland theme going on here; it’s about to be huge because of the new Tim Burton film and there’s already a massive wave of cute pendants and kooky-style clothes hitting the highstreet.

Check her out at: http://www.myspace.com/daisydaresyoumusic

And this is why I love her style as well…
