Topshop for Prom?

I personally feel that now is the time to deal with the mighty challenge of the prom dress. It’s so difficult to get ‘the one’ as there is so much choice: colour, length, shape, fabric. Considering it’s an organised school event you can’t look trampy.. aaand it’s the last time you see your school year as a whole, so you want to make a lasting impression (especially if you’re leaving). So: what is whorey, and what is wowzas, time to find out…

Topshop have released their new collection of dresses ‘Dress Up Topshop’ – I warn you, some of these dresses are disgusting. To be honest, I was pretty surprised Topshop could do that. It seems they may have really tried to design a prom dress but only managed to create a salmon coloured monstrosity.

I’m not even going to provide you with the horror that is the yellow version.

But to be honest there is no point me talking about the horrible dresses. They do have some really stunning ones, but remember, some proms are more up scale than others so make sure you cater to your own needs.

This ‘petrol’ coloured vintage dress is perfect for prom. It can be dressed up or down, depending on what your prom evening is like. The swishy-ness of the skirt, the sparkly beading and ruffled bodice add up to make a really gorgeous dress.

This next dress is a bit more prommy. The puffy, tulle skirt and cute black bow waist detail put together with the black and blue spotty pattern make for a very cutesy prom dress. Or if you’re not feeling for the blue, try the slightly safer, ivory. I personally much prefer the ivory coloured version as for me, blue just looks a bit odd.

This dress isn’t from the Dress Up Topshop range but I think it could be a really spectacular alternative prom dress. The shiny, goldy shimmer on the dress turns the dress from a bit dull to stunning. Also, the long and short contrast and ruffles will definitely ensure no one will look quite as hot as you.

This dress can only be worn if you don’t mind getting a bit of eyeing up and general perving – or in some cases mocking – from some male teachers. Seeing as it is tight, sheer and sparkly, best to make sure you’re feeling confident. Anyways, the sparkly tree thing going up the side is really gorrggg, and is just the right amount of sparkliness to liven up the plain black main body of the dress.

When it came to prom dresses, I really though Topshop would come up amazingly with some stunninggg dresses, but so far I have been slightly dissapointed. I think the best option, if you are hoping to get something from Topshop, is to hit the bigger stores; Oxford Street and Knightsbridge. Oxford Street in particular will probably be your best bet, the concessions downstairs next to the shoe section should provide you with above and beyond than six items for the dressing room…

Here’s the best of the rest from Topshop…

Enjoy! O x.x

Big A/W Guide: The Coat

The darkness is falling… and unfortunately so is the rain. Being unable to do my make up with natural light in the mornings, is one of the sad pitfalls of nearing the end of the year. Along with with the cold nights, the red hands & the chattering of teeth. So it seems we need jackets…and coats, and cosy things to wear underneath them. So here is the beginning of a big ol’ guide for stocking up your wardrobe with nice big warm things, oh and they’re also pretty nice too. Starting with…

So you may have a numerous amount of coats, but do you have The Coat? The coat that you can wear with anything, the coat that you know is going to look good. The coat. Well, if you don’t, you’re not alone, neither do I. But after looking at this trusty selection, you may  just find your other half for the rest of the year.

Zara have the most immense clothing at the moment, but the best has to be their coats. I was almost falling off my chair, my christmases all just came at once. Well, 5 did.

Topshop are the old favourites, almost always have what you’re looking for, and the moment you step in the shop, you would like to own it. Every year they do of the greatest selection of coats, here’s what they’ve provided this year…

With H&M only recently making it able to shop and browse online, this is their MOtrend debut. But, it’s not all that great, their coats aren’t shockingly horrible, but they definitley aren’t the best. There isn’t a great selection, but if you look hard enough you might be able to find a gem..

I’ve always seen River Island as a little bit Katie Price, especially as it was once quoted it was her favourite shop :/ But, I have recently chosen to ignore my gut instinct and have a proper look, not a glance. I was pleasantly surprised, as I wasn’t greeted with what I expected…and the coats? not too shabby…

Whistles is slowly creeping up my list of favourite shops. There is hardly a thing I dislike in that shop. And they just happen to have really really lovely coats, that cape’s a favourite.

Urban Outfitters, another firm favourite. They have the perfect causal coats, good for when you don’t want to look too…’coaty’.

Aaaand finally, we have online amazingness Asos. The site where everything is, and having to go through all their coats was my definitely a pleasure. I love these coats. A lot.

New Autumn Favourites

Ok, let’s face it, summer is over. The sun is minimal, the coursework is not, everyone’s talking about coats and boots, so I reckon we should just move on. Autumn, afterall, is one of my favourite seasons, I love the colours, the wrapping up, the having to not shave your legs as often, it’s all good. Aaand, wrapping up means more clothes which means you need more, if you get my drift. There is always a reason for new stuff. So anyway, I have happily complied a selection of my favourite items for the new season:

Statement Earrings and Little Necklaces

Having been away for most of the summer, I have really been lacking in posting, for that I feel crappy and am very sorry. Anyways, having been away I have been able to play around with summery outfits and realise whats actually necessary to stuff into an already overflowing suitcase and what isn’t. This resulted in a friend having to sit me down in my bedroom and have a bit of a Sex and the City moment as she asked me to justify each and every item I planned to take with me. Hated it. So damn annoying if you simply can’t justify something without saying ‘I might need it, pleeeeeasee can i just put it in the case’. But, although I hate to admit it, I have changed my ways, almost too much I have to say, I went away for a week and a half, they half bit I was camping, and I ended up only having a very minimal amount of clothing to wear, literally, when I opened my case in my tent I was like, shit. 2 pairs of jeans, about 3 tops and a dress and a skirt is not enough. Damn you small Primark suitcase. However I did manage to bring a very big amount of jewellery and have now discovered my new found love for big studded earrings, Topshop ones in particular and Cute little charm necklaces, Accesorize ones. Wearing them with a simple top and jeans can make something a bit crap look nicer. Here are some of mine, hover over the pictures and it’ll say where they’re from..

I love the kind of vintagey vibe of the earrings, I’m definitely gonna be doing some serious vintage stud hunting in Brick Lane and Portobello.

Seeing as some of the necklaces are pretty old and might not be available anymore. As far as I’m,aware, you can still buy the earrings in Topshop. But anyway here are some others you can buy:

The below earrings are all Topshop:

And from as long as I can remember Asos have been theee best at cheap necklaces, set your price range at £10 and you get loads of really cute charm necklaces..

And if you’re feeling a bit rich, treat yourself to a House Of Harlow necklace for a mere £73…it’s expensive, but if I had the money, I would buy it. Or this one for £116, ahh my neck aches for one, sadly my purse aches at the price tag.

Enjoy the last few days of freedom, September is the crappest month ever.

Clashing Prints: No-Go = Go Ahead

Animal prints with florals or tribal patterns beneath stripes – being experimental creates a relaxed, eclectic vibe which is now less hippy and more high-fashion. A bright printed scarf will jazz up any plain black bikini and a chintzy, pretty-in-pink patterned dress can have serious attitude when you layer it with a contrasting bandanna or scarf-belt and cowboy boots… Celebs like Whitney Port are already taking tips from the catwalk and leading the way. Topshop is especially good at creating bolder pieces.

The Vintage Tee

The ‘shorts-and-a-tee’ outfit is one of the easiest options in summer – it doesn’t have the blow-up potential of a skirt or dress plus it’s comfy and (dare I say it) practical. The current Urban Outfitters sale makes now a great time to pick up a few quirky / vintage tees to see you through summer…

 (all Urban Outfitters, £9.99)

If you can’t find what you want in the UO sale, here are some alternatives:
